MITCH Dorsey Peterson
Mitch Dorsey Peterson is a printmaker living in the Seattle area.
She creates one-of-a-kind artwork through the techniques of pochoir, screen printing, block printing and collagraphy.
She has dual degrees from CU, Boulder, a BFA in Studio Arts/Printmaking with a BS in Environmental Conservation, and an MS in Textile Design from Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Her curiosity about science is the initial motivation to create. With each series, she hones in on a scientific subject that is of interest to her and uses that as her starting point to generate ideas, sketches and stencils.
She is intrigued by microscopic shapes, patterns and processes. Her pieces start simple and progress becoming more complicated and layered as the series evolves.
By enlarging these shapes and layering them, she creates movement through pattern, color and depth. Her goal for the viewer is to have the person pause, take a closer look and to find beauty in what we normally can not see.
Mitch has a background in mural arts, decorative painting and graphic design.
When not making art, she is tending to her many house plants or hanging out with her husband, two teenage sons and their dog.
